Vertical strips are sewn to the backing at both ends. The horizontal strips are sewn on one side and rounded at the other end for weaving.

Materials:
- Basic backing block Something medium size print would work well.
- Make 4 heavy lengthwise strips ¾”x 8.5” in a solid color.
- Make 5 heavy crosswise strips ¾”x 7.5” in a contrasting color
Instructions:
- Arrange lengthwise (long) strips evenly spaced on the backing.
- Stitch in place at both ends within the 1/2" seam allowance
- Round one end of the short strips.
- Arrange vertical (short) strips evenly spaced on the backing.
- Stitch in place at the square end, leaving the short end free for weaving.
Notes:
- You can either use heavy material for the strips, or make heavy strips by layering a back color, double sided iron on adhesive, and the front.
